A high arch in the foot, also called a pes cavus , is a common condition in which the arch of the foot is higher than normal while carrying body weight. This is the opposite of a flat foot – a flat foot. This condition can lead to the appearance of pain in the feet due to pressure on the foot bones

What it can cause?

  • Pes cavus can lead to significant limitation in movement and function of the foot.

  • Some of these conditions are heel instability, stress fractures in the lower extremities, knee and back pain and frequent stumbles - conditions that can lead to significant damage to the daily life of the person suffering from this condition.

How can we treat pes cavus?

  • The treatment usually involves the use of a custom insole and a shoe that matches the foot

  • If the pain doesn’t change and even worsens - surgical treatment should be considered

Flat arch in the foot

 

A flat arch in the foot, also called a pes planus or flatfoot, is the opposite of a pes cavus. In contrast to the high arch, in the flatfoot almost all of the foot comes in contacting the ground.

 

In this position, the foot bone named talus is in a position slightly away from its natural place and as a result, the tendons and ligaments of the foot is stretching and creating as a result "stiff" foot.

How can we treat the flatfoot?
